911 Dispatcher for Sheriff’s Office (Civil Service)

Dispatchers are responsible for the transmission of radio and telephone messages and requests for law enforcement, emergency medical and fire services. Shall dispatch public safety units and monitor their activity, providing support as required. Handles highly stressful emergency requests; calms, negotiates and controls callers to gather essential information to communicate to responders. Coordinates inter-office telephone traffic and other correspondence. Acts as a direct representative of the Sheriff when dispatching Sheriff’s Office law enforcement personnel.

NUMBER OF OPEN POSITIONS: Three (3).

SALARY AND BENEFITS: (subject to change as contract is currently in union negotiations). Starting Entry rate: $15.69/hour; $2720.26/month. Starting Lateral rate: $2829.07 – $3059.92/ month, DOE. Benefits package including vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, life insurance, retirement plan and medical benefits.

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE: Typing Test: Between 8-9:45 am Thursday, August 3, 2017 – Keyboarding is 40 WPM with a 90% accuracy (a pass or fail test). Your keyboarding appointment will be set at the time you file your application. You must pass the typing test to take the Written Exam (same day): Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 10:00 am (allow 2 hours for written test). Test location: County Courthouse, Commissioner’s Office 625 W. 4th St. Newport, WA 99156. A non-refundable $15.00 testing fee does apply.
