Deputies are responsible for the preservation of the public peace, protection of life and property, prevention of crime, investigation of crimes, the arrest of violators of the law, the proper enforcement of all laws and ordinances of the County, State and the United States, and adherence to the Sheriff’s Rules, Regulations and Procedures.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Union, vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, longevity, retirement plan, and medical benefits. Starting salary: Entry Level at Step 1, $4137.30/month; Laterals: Step 2, $4310.43/month to Step 4, $4654.48/month, depending on experience.

Written Exam: (same day) Friday, September 22, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at the same location in the Civil Service Office.

Typing Test: No minimum required and not grounds for disqualification. Your typing score will be added to your application before submission to the Sheriff’s office. Test will be administered before the deadline, and on testing day (after the written). Dates available: 8am-2pm Sept. 5-8, 11-14, 18-21. Please schedule your typing test ahead of time (by phone, email, or at the time you submit your application) to avoid the wait time on testing day. You may take the typing test at the time you submit your application if it falls within the dates and time stated.

911 Dispatchers for Sheriff’s Office (Civil Service)

Dispatchers are responsible for the transmission of radio and telephone messages and requests for law enforcement, emergency medical and fire services. Shall dispatch public safety units and monitor their activity, providing support as required. Handles highly stressful emergency requests; calms, negotiates and controls callers to gather essential information to communicate to responders. Coordinates inter-office telephone traffic and other correspondence. Acts as a direct representative of the Sheriff when dispatching Sheriff’s Office law enforcement personnel.

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE: Typing Test: Between 8-9:45 am Thursday, September 21, 2017 – Keyboarding is 40 WPM with a 90% accuracy (a pass or fail test). Your keyboarding appointment will be set at the time you file your application. You must pass the typing test to take the Written Exam (same day): Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 10:00 am (allow 2 hours for written test). Test location: County Courthouse, Commissioner’s Office 625 W. 4th St. Newport, WA 99156. A non-refundable $15.00 testing fee does apply.
