Pend Oreille County Comprehensive Plan: In 1990 the Washington State Legislature adopted a law that would change the course of planning and land use. The law commonly known as the Growth Management Act, or GMA, would now provide the framework for how to plan for future population, environment, and resource lands. GMA requires several things from the counties and cities of Washington. The summation of those requirements can be found in what are known as comprehensive plans. These are documents that are broken into several categories such as transportation, capital facilities, recreation, housing, etc. and outline their local government’s body’s plan to accomplish goals and mitigate issues.
The comprehensive plans are binding documents and must be adhered to until it is amended. These plans act as a map of sorts to guide legislative decisions that will accomplish those goals, and cannot be contradictory of one another.
Included with the Pend Oreille Comprehensive Plan are these helpful tables and documents
- Regional Transportation Improvement Plan (this is a description of transportation projects, when they are scheduled for, location, and division of funding.)
- Signed Adoption Resolution (The resolution which officially adopted the updates to the Pend Oreille County Comprehensive Plan.)

Pend Oreille County Development Regulations: The development regulations outlines the process, requirements, exceptions, and restrictions for a number of different development scenarios.

Pend Oreille Shoreline Master Program: The overall goal of the Pend Oreille County Shoreline Master Program is to support the preservation, use, and development of shoreline areas in accordance with the provisions of the Pend Oreille County Comprehensive Plan, and the Comprehensive Plans of the cities and towns in Pend Oreille County, the Washington State Shoreline Management Act and Shoreline Master Program Guidelines, and the Washington State Growth Management Act. Included with the Shoreline Master Program are these supporting documents
- Local Adoption Ordinance of SMP (This ordinance officially adopted the Shoreline Master Program at a local level)
- Washington State Department of Ecology Adoption (This adoption of the Shoreline Master Program at the statewide level)
Code of the New Frontier: This document explains some of what can be expected when moving into the rural setting that is Pend Oreille County. It highlights some of the difference in culture, environment, and County services that should be taken into consideration when relocating to the countryside.
